Brands On Facebook Don’t Get The Picture

Photos are, by far, the type of Facebook content that draws the most engagement, so surely, brands on the social network focus on them, right? Not so much.

According to a study of 300 brand pages, 150,000 Facebook posts, and 700 million likes by social media agency Pandemic Labs, brands on Facebook instead to post more links, which draw the least engagement.

Pandemic clients include The Ritz-Carlton, DirecTV, and Au Bon Pain.



Using Location-Based Networks for Your Marketing Efforts

The use of mobile marketing has grown by leaps and bounds with the use of mobile phone apps. This is seen by the increase is usage of location-based apps that include Foursquare. However, marketing done with location-based apps continues to grow as smartphone usage increases. A business should know the various methods that are available to incorporate location-based networks into their marketing plans.

Push Notification Integration

The use of location-based apps requires the integration of push notification. This allows an app that is running on a smartphone to see activity, various announcements as a way to promote their business and the app for many types of users. Any app installed by a user should also be customizable.

Rewards for using an app such as a discount coupon is a great marketing option. When users know that they will receive a freebie by using a particular app, they will be more willing to install it. One way that this is done having a marketing team promote on mobile apps such as Foursquare. Offering a user a free item or a any type of discount increases exposure for the app and the business.

Paying people to share and discuss videos on their social media accounts is one of the newest forms of internet advertising. The idea was based on the fact that most people are already sharing and discussing videos they are interested in, so why not pay people to share specific ads?

The site Wingsplay just recently launched, and it pays people to share videos through their social media accounts. Founder Olivier Lasry states that ads based on referrals from friends and family will resonate far more than simply seeing an advertisement pop up on a website. Lasry states that the idea came to him after he saw friends posting their advertising videos on social networks.
Since people are already sharing ads online, it shouldn’t be difficult to turn it into a form of advertising.People who sign up with Wingsplay can share up to four videos per week, and they are paid based on the number of views generated by their social media account. Users are given a variety of ads to choose from, and selecting videos that they or their friends are interested in increases the likelihood people will view the video, which puts money in the Wingsplay member’s pocket.Viewing videos is just part of the idea behind Wingsplay. In addition to getting people to watch videos, the goal is for the videos to start conversations. This creates a more memorable and interactive ad experience than simply embedding a video in a webpage or forcing someone to watch a clip before they can see streaming video.

NBC and Oxygen have already started advertising new television shows through Wingsplay, and while Wingsplay is currently only offering movie and television trailers for sharing, they expect to add a variety of videos in the near future. Their plan is to make funny and interesting videos available, not just commercials, so people will want to share and discuss the ads. Even though the site is still in beta, it is already seeing promising results.

Lasry states that humorous ads are expected to net an Earned:Paid ratio of approximately 6, which is incredible for the industry.

How to Increase your Podcast and Apps Ranking on iTunes

Last week i wrote an article about the importance of ranking high on iTunes. This week I’ll provide some tips on how to increase your apps and podcast ranking on iTunes.

How to increase your iTunes Rankings

Few people realize that iTunes rankings have nothing to do with the number of inbound links. This is very different than most other major search engines, such as Amazon or Yahoo. The following are five steps on how to increase the rankings of your podcasts and apps.

1. Ask your Users!
Most of your users won’t rank your apps or your podcasts because they don’t think of it. Ask them to rank your podcasts and apps five stars, and you will be surprised at how many users will actually do it.

2. Social Interaction
Use social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, to post updates about your podcasts and apps, or just to remind people to go check them out. Also, if someone makes a post on their Facebook stream using your app, all of their friends will be able to see it.

3. Make Apps Live
If you give users the option to communicate while still in the app by being able to message one another, it will increase the length of time that app is used enormously, in turn increasing the ranking of your app.

4. Share!
Allow users to share your podcasts through social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest. Ask users to rate your podcasts and apps on these sites in order to entice others to download them. Allow a user the option to add friends on your app. This makes it easier for users to spread the use of your app around, and easier for non-users to receive the app.

5. Pay Per Download
You can pay users ten cents a download to download your podcasts and/or apps. If your app or podcast is downloaded at a high rate in the very first week that it is live, it will achieve higher rankings. You can do this by going to
